Well, here’s some refreshing news. According to Teen Vogue, Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy will lend her voice to narrate the popular children’s book Hair Love. Hair Love, a book and Oscar-winning short film tells the story about a young, Black girl embracing her natural hair and how her dad grooms it.
Now with all this success of the book, Ms. Blue Ivy Carter will voice Hair Love the audiobook. She sounds cute as a button in the clip that author Matthew Cherry shared on Twitter this morning.
The book gained popularity through social media and after a successful Kickstarter. Fans praised it for its beautiful depiction of a Black family and for showing the beauty and versatility of Black hair.
Cherry decided to make a book of his journey of his experiences of doing his daughter’s hair after receiving positive feedback of his adventures with styling her hair on Twitter.
After the success of his book, Cherry released a short animated film that goes by the same title. He won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 2020.
We hope Blue Ivy inspires young Black girls to get into voice acting. Whether it’s books or cartoons, we need more Black girls voices literally and figuratively.
