Well, American Gods is now canceled.
Mr. Nancy’s character on American Gods is the reason why a lot of of even watched the show. His monologues on Black America ( which he was able to write some on his own) reflected how a lot of view ourselves and each other. The series, based on the graphic novels by Neil Gaiman quickly gained fans on and offline.
Thank you #AmericanGods fans.
I know ya’ll have LOTS of questions about the firing. As always I promise to tell you the truth and nothing but. ❤️ Always, Mr. Nancy???????? pic.twitter.com/sDouoQlUMd— Orlando Jones (@TheOrlandoJones) December 14, 2019
American Gods has a new showrunner and apparently doesn’t think Mr. Nancy is a pivotal character. According to Orlando Jones, the new non-melanin, ivy league creative feels Mr. Nancy is too angry for Black America. Apparently this showrunner has never read a James Baldwin book. You can’t even be Black without being censored as a thespian. Blackness scares white supremacy and it never fails they will use their power to stifle any language or art that makes them uncomfortable.
Fabulize magazine recognized the real in Mr. Nancy. He’s only echoed the voices and consciousness from our Black forefathers and mothers. Orlando Jones wasn’t being too radical; he was just telling shit like it is and unfortunately it cost him his job. Orlando Jones has had a wonderful career and I can’t wait to see what he does next. I am sure it will be equally as impressive. Keep ya head up.
