Nia DaCosta Will Direct Captain Marvel Sequel

Black History Month is looking a little extra lit!!!

According to the New York Daily News, Nia DaCosta will be the first Black woman director to lead a feature film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She is slated to direct the sequel to Captain Marvel which previously grossed over $1 billion worldwide.

Now if you are watching WandaVison you know how much of a big deal this is. Fans are eagerly waiting for Monica Rambeau to reveal her true form and there’s no word if it’s going to happen in the Disney+ series or in the Captain Marvel sequel.

It would be dope if DaCosta not only has the opportunity to give us a dope Captain Marvel but some much anticipated Monica Rambeau magic—the streets need it!

DaCosta gained a lot of new fans with the trailer of Candyman. Unfortunately, the pandemic hit and fans weren’t able to experience her work. There’s no official date if or when the movie will be released on streaming services or in the theater.

DaCosta who was born in Brooklyn and raised in Harlem and has been honing her cinematic skills since. When asked who were are her influences she notes directors like Martin Scorsese, Sidney Lumet, Steven Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola.

I wanted to tell a story about that, but from the perspective of women who lived in rural America — particularly those who are living in poverty,” the writer and director explained in an interview with IndieWire as reported by the New York Daily News.
