Atticus himself, Jonathan Majors, is now casted in a new role for Marvel’s Ant-Man 3, as reported by Deadline.
Riding high off the success of both Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods and HBO’s Lovecraft Country, the actor is stepping up in a huge way. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe begins to launch into the next phase, fans have speculated about what comes next. Alien invasions and time travel have proven possible between Avengers Infinity War and Endgame. Ant-Man 2 featured the inclusion of the Quantum Realm as a means to express how some spaces could not be altered by time. It only makes sense then that Jonathan Majors will be playing the infamous Kang The Conqueror.
Who Is Kang?
In the comics, Kang first begins as Nathaniel Richardson from the 31st Century. He manages to find ancient technology from Dr. Doom that allows for time travel. First he ends up in ancient Egypt to assume the position of Pharoh Rama-Tut. However, when the Fantastic Four end up in the same time period by accident, they clash with Richardson, ending in his defeat. He then reaches modern day 20th century, making a chance encounter with Dr. Doom.
Armed with knowledge, Richardson tries to return to his proper time but overshoots by an extra millennium. Now on an apocalyptic Earth where there are no heroes and the survivors have weapons they barely understand, Richardson sees an opportunity. Unrivaled, he quickly seizes control of the planet and thus, Kang the Conqueror is born.
Given how the MCU has shaped up until this point, the role of Kang the Conqueror is a game changer. His abilities can redefine the events we’ve witnessed so far. We saw the implementation of science and magic between Dr. Strange, Iron Man, and Thor, leaving the idea of multiple realities open for tampering. Kang is the one who can tamper. This allows him to be nearly as big of a threat or even more so than Thanos.
A New Dawn
With that said, many opportunities can now be had and easily explained, both from the cinematic standpoint and real life. A great example would be the passing of Chadwick Boseman. With Letiita Wright set to have Shuri take the mantle of Black Panther, a proper explanation can be had on how this comes about.
Having Majors take on such a such a major (all puns intended) role could alter the entirety of the Phase 5 movie line up. Most notably, it could bring forth the introduction of the X-Men, Fantastic 4, and other Fox properties that Disney now owns. This can make Marvel whole and truly expand the MCU in ways unheard of. We can only hope this turns out as epic as it sounds.
The 2020 glow up of Jonathan Majors is on a roll. Let’s see what else is in store for him.
