FABULIZE EXCLUSIVE-Meet Tyron Perrin: The Designer that made the most talked about dress at the BET Awards worn by Free

Tyron Perrin created the dress that was the topic of conversation for days on Twitter

As Fabulize Mag was wrapping up the best of the best looks at the BET Awards, the entire social media atmosphere was blown away by Free and her curvaceous dress that was clearly the highlight of the entire show. It was her dress that accentuated her shape just right that made the entire male species remember why brown girls are indeed one of a kind.

It wasn’t until the morning that I found out the dress was created by Tyron Perrin and his ever evolving fashion line called the MARQUETTE COLLECTION. Now let me tell you a little story, I met Tyron when he was about 19 around New York Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week while writing for D.A.M. Magazine. He was so sweet and adorably cute but filled with talent and possibilities. I was also told by a mutual friend and dope stylist Giovanni that there was a young and extremely gifted designer that creates women’s fashion and of course this is evident because I am now writing about my talented friend that is catapulting into celebrity recognition based on his creativity.

So as he was traveling back from L.A. I called him and we got a chance to talk and to be honest I’m so happy for him. He’s young (22) with an unlimited amount of creative potential that will bill a household name soon. Just remember who brought it to you first.

Check out our interview here:

How long have you been a designer?

I have been designing for as long as I can remember. I started when I was fifteen years old, and I am now 22. So it’s been about 7 years now.

Who or what inspires you?

I am most inspired by a woman’s body shape, as well as unique fabrics that are eclectic and fresh.

How did you meet Free and what was your design inspiration for her now famous dress?

I met Free at P. Diddy’s charity event in Philadelphia at the Ritz Carlton Hotel last year. She walked into my room to get her makeup done by my good friend and makeup artist, Ryan B. Anthony, and to get styled by stylist, Giovanni Thompson. While she was in the room, I was actually sewing a garment, and she loved my work. Right away, she took me under her wing as one of her favorite new young fashion designers.

What was the inspiration behind Free’s dress?

Honey, that dress blew up, didn’t it? It was on mediatakeout.com! (Laughs) Well, my inspiration for Free’s “oh sooooo famous dress” was inspired by my work as a young designer. I love things with a simple cut, and with a little bit of “fufula,” as my boy-friend, Casamera would say. (Laughs)

Why do you like designing women’s clothes?

I LOVE designing women’s clothing because I love to show off their beautiful bodies and I just adore the shape of a woman. . . especially because it’s easy and fast too! (Laughs)

What is the future for Marquette? Do you want to be in boutiques or just design for special orders?

The future for the Marquette Collection is endless! I want to have my collections sold in boutiques for awhile and then I want to expand to become a household name. I also love having one on one consultation with my celebrity and non-celebrity clients just as much because I love to create exclusive, customized pieces for them as well.

How do you feel about all this recognition now? you went from 300 followers on twitter to almost 600 in just one day- how does that make you feel?

Good question! (Laughs) I have been saying the very same thing all week! It feels great, I am grateful to Free my wearing my dress and making it a showstopper. I know that it’s hard to get people to follow you on Twitter unless you’re super hype. (Laughs) My growing twitter fan base is only an encouragement to me that I am doing a great job and that people want to see more of me and my work. I love the support; it makes me love my job as a designer even more. I want to shout out my hometown—I LOVE my Philly supporters! (Laughs)

How do you create a dress or collection? Do you start with a story or do you just dive in and design whatever is in your head?

Most designers create a storyboard, but that’s just not me. I just get my fabric lay out and get it poppin’! (Laughs) I am a person who loves unique fabrics with a simple, seamless design.

You are so young, but are well into becoming a famous designer, what do you have to say to young designer reading Fabulize Mag that wants to design pieces for celebrities like you?

I am young, I am talented, I am me. I am Marquette, which attributes to the designer that I am. I am a self-taught designer, and these things shape who I am today. Growing up I told myself that I am going to create fabulous clothes for everyone, the stylish woman working the 9-5, down to the celebrities. I always said that I was going to do it on my own, and by God’s grace, I did just that. I believe in speaking things into existence, (that’s Bible) and good things will happen. I would tell any aspiring designer to stay positive, and stay confident, but above all, stay true to yourself.

He may be talented but he is also a Scammer. He took money from me and several other girls and we never got our dresses nor did we get our money back. And he is getting away with it because he is in philly. he picks and chooses who he wants to make dresses for and the ones he don’t want to make a dress for he takes money and ignore clients.
