Kodansha Will Host its First Ever Manga Immersive Pop-up in NYC

If you love manga you are not going to miss this one-of-a-kind experience.

Starting October. 4th, Japan’s largest publisher, Kodansha will encourage manga lovers and fans to experience their month-long pop-up experience in New York City. Fans can expect to meet the creative teams behind their favorite manga such as Akira, Sailor Moon, Attack on Titan, and Blue Lock. The experience is titled: Kodansha House: Where Manga Meets. 

Festivities will be held at 45 Grand Street (SoHo). Kodansha will be operating between Wednesdays and Sundays from 12pm-9pm through the month of October.

This is a free event and open to the public however the publisher is requiring that guests RSVP to ensure they are granted entrance.

Here’s what to expect at the Kodansha manga NYC pop-up experience

The publisher released a statement on their website about its upcoming manga pop-up. “Kodansha House is not just an event—it’s a vibrant meeting place where the world of manga comes alive,” Kodansha confirmed.

This will be followed by an option to discover an interactive portal that will stem from the enormous manga shelf entryway. According to the official press release, there will also be a gallery, cafe and lounge for fans to socialize.

Currently, there are about a dozen activities scheduled for October. There is a manga book club, speed friending and multiple manga movie nights. Toward the end of the month, Kodansha will allow the public to participate in manga marketplace exchange. If the thought of trading your manga goods is a dealbreaker, there’s another option. There will also be weekly shopping experiences with Kodansha’s partners from Kinokuniya. Kinokuniya will be available every Friday-Sunday from 1 pm-8 pm. Manga creators confirmed

Here are a few creators that will be making rare American appearances as well as participate in Q&A sessions:

Shuzo Oshimi – The Flowers of Evil

Tsubasa Yamaguchi – Blue Period

Makoto Yukimura- Vinland Saga

Kamome Shirahama- Witch Hat Atelier

Additionally, there will also be Attack On Titans and Akira photobooths. Choose between becoming a titan while emulating going over a wall and eating people made of candy. Or, you can wear Kaneda’s jacket on bike and create your own viral moment.
